Kate Madeleine’s New Bear

I should have thought of this one first but aunt Ai and uncle Arden already got one for her. It’s one gigantic bear. I thought she was going to be scared but she rolled around on it like a pillow. Maybe we’ll get her a piggy next time.

Got tired of the bear. Let's go do some real modeling.

This one's for everyone who missed her big party last Sunday.

Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8D AF-S For-Sale (SOLD)

I think it’s time to find this guy a new home. Between the 14mm 2.8 AF-D, the 14-24mm f/2.8 AF-S, and the 24mm f/1.4G AF-S , this 17-35mm f/2.8D AF-S just gets lost in the mix and does not see the light of day as often any more. Comes with original box and leather case. $950. If anyone is interested, let me know before I put it on ebay. Here are some shots of it as well as some photos taken with it.

Growing Up

These guys grow up fast. It was just a year ago that I saw them and here they are–twice as tall and super smart. I don’t know what my cousins are feeding them but man, they are BIG. Could be a Canadian thing to feed kids elephant milk. No offense to anyone from Canada reading this post. I think it’s just my dad’s side of the family. They are all taller and stronger.

 This was a year ago.

Double Rainbow

How often does one see a double rainbow? The sight was pretty cool. This is only the second time in my life where I have witnessed such an awesome sight. The first time was in Orange County, California outside my apartment. Luckily, I had my camera handy as I was just coming back from a shoot. Here’s what I got.

Summer in Toronto

My most recent trip to Toronto was reminiscent of my trips to Vancouver. The atmosphere, the architecture, the public spaces, not-to-mention the great coffee (not Starbucks)–all of these just came together and brought back some great memories. This is my second time in Toronto and for some reason, it feels different. I visited family and just relaxed with my relatives, nieces and nephews. Good times. I did not get to photograph much while I was there with only two days to spend. I made the best of the time I got to grab a few shots of downtown and Chinatown. I also have to mention how awesome the dim sum was. We need more dim sum places in Jacksonville. There’s only one in this city and it’s not even that good. Then there was a quick stop in Niagra Falls. View from Canadian side rocks.

New thinhlephotography.com [now in HTML5]

What have I been up to for the past couple months? http://www.thinhlephotography.com is the result of endless nights redesigning and coding in the new web standards, HTML5 and jQuery. It’s still in the works as far as content goes but the major structures are complete. Now I can focus more on the fun stuff like making photographs. Actually, in the middle of it all, I was able to take a couple trips and had a few photo shoots. I will upload a few samples from the shoots and travels soon. If anyone’s thinking about creating or recreating a website using HTML5, go do it now. Beats flash in that it loads faster and is supported by mobile platforms. Speaking which, the next big addition to the site will be a mobile version. Here are a few snapshots of what the site looks like now.

Ao Dai – Spring

I’ve always been a big fan of the spring season when all of Earth’s colors begin to explode into tangible forms. If you have seen my previous posts, you would know what I mean. A big part of the driving force behind photography for me is color. I know I have mentioned it many times before but I just wanted to reiterate the importance of color and its relationship to who I am as an artist as well as the linkage it has to my heritage growing up in Vietnam.

Here’s a recent photo shoot with Thu Thao in spring ao dai.

In The Garden

Orchids at the Botanical Garden in Washington, DC

I got a lot of requests for photos from the orchid exhibit so here they are.

That’s it for now for the orchids. Enjoy the rest from the garden.

Cherry Blossom Festival 2011

Just got back from our trip to Washington, DC this past week for the festival. It was a great trip. I was cold and windy with only a few hours of sunshine but we made the best of it. The cherry blossom was at their peak and the colors are amazing. I also got a chance to shoot with the 85mm f/1.4 the whole day and I have to say, I love it. I also brought along a 17-35mm f/2.8 and found that the two lenses was all I needed. Here are some shots from the trip.
