Sold my last canon lens today, the Canon 17-40mm f/4 L. Friends ask why I’m selling all my Canon gear and the answer is this. Canon’s recent design of their DSLRs has been very disappointing especially the Canon 5D Mark II. Don’t get me wrong, the 5D Mark II is the sharpest camera I have ever used but sharpness isn’t everything when it comes to making pictures. I was a huge fan of the original 5D until I realized how slow and clunky it is to use. It made me appreciate Nikon’s design and the way their SLRs operate and especially the way it feels in your hand. Everything is smooth from switching between shooting modes to making exposure compensation and down to the “info” button on their latest DSLRs (D300s & D700). The 5D Mark II was supposed to fix all the problems the original 5D had but it did not. As a result, I switched back to Nikon and never looked back. Although, I still like the look and operation of the L-series lens–they will be missed.
